Youth Leadership Book Club

The Our Lady of Grace - Youth Leadership Book Club (YLBC) is borne from the Thomas Jefferson Education philosophy.  We follow the general plan presented in A Thomas Jefferson Education Home Companion.

Mission:

YLBC  is a club offering young leaders ages 9 – 11 an exciting opportunity to learn through the classics, with group discussion, narration, hands-on creative and explorative experiences, mentors and social interaction with other home schoolers.

Vision:

Our youth want to grow up to be great leaders.  To do this they need models and inspiration. YLBC offers an avenue to meet these needs through reading the classics, activities, discussion and special guests all in a fun, relaxed, club atmosphere.

As a club, we want to glorify God in all we say, do, and are. We will…

  • Put God first.
  • Put others before ourselves.
  • Cultivate deep relationships with one another.
  • Extend love to those around us.
  • Live simply.
  • Be true to who God made us.
  • Be good stewards of creation.
  • Be lifelong learners.

Student's Prayer, by St. Thomas Aquinas

Creator of all things, true source of light and wisdom, origin of all being,
graciously let a ray of your light penetrate

the darkness of my understanding.

Take from me the double darkness

in which I have been born,
an obscurity of sin and ignorance.

Give me a keen understanding,
a retentive memory, and
the ability to grasp things correctly and fundamentally.

Grant me the talent of being exact
in my explanations and the ability to express myself
with thoroughness and charm.

Point out the beginning,
direct the progress,
and help in the completion.

I ask this through Christ our Lord.  Amen.
